​Working from a painting by French artist Jean Hélion, composition was analyzed and defined using grid, lines, and notation. The painting was then transcribed as a series of lines to produce a composite drawing. A definition of composition was developed based upon our process of interpreting the original work. A catalog of parts was created from the analysis, which was then used to design a new composition with our definition in mind.
