​The Roof and Rectangular House by Jun Igarashi is located in Tomakomai, Japan, a city that experiences cold winters with lots of snow. To respond to this, Igarashi has designed a home with “wind breaker” rooms on either end of the structure covered by the roof. The interior features a level down at the frost line, another on ground level, and one at loft level. These levels create nested spaces, dividing the home into areas across multiple horizontal planes.
