TYPE,
MORE TYPE, ANOTHER TYPE

This project takes a nonconformist approach to designing ordinary buildings. The ambition will be to make projects that elude today’s well established building typologies by intensifying their fundamental features and violating the implied rules that govern their design. Universalism relied on abstraction in modern architecture’s steel and glass box and postmodernism’s exotic form. This approach will be to exaggerate, flout, and reprogram an easily identifiable building type, the motel. The second phase of the project explores how the modified examples of the motel might escape their original typology by incorporating or converting into other types of buildings.
